After eight years in Las Vegas, I still find it an exciting and vibrant city.
Las Vegas is home to 2,839,000 residents but is best known for the famous Las Vegas Strip. However, this city provides much more for everyday living than just nightlife, offering much-needed services as well as entertainment venues and activities such as museums.
Las Vegas provides many of the advantages associated with large cities (restaurants, shows, and music venues) while remaining manageable and non-suppressive in its atmosphere.
Pros and Cons of Living in Las Vegas
Today I’d like to present my list of pros and cons associated with living in Las Vegas.
As you read my list of lovely things about living in Las Vegas, keep in mind that this is simply my perspective and might differ depending on who reads it.
Now let’s dive in and discuss some advantages associated with living in Las Vegas.
1. Affordable Living Costs
Las Vegas boasts many amenities for such a cosmopolitan city while remaining relatively budget-friendly in terms of living costs.
Some may find this statement surprising as affordability might seem counterintuitive in such a sprawling metropolis as Las Vegas, but hear me out before making assumptions based on that assumption.
Overall, Las Vegas stands only 3% higher than the national average in terms of cost of living – quite an accomplishment considering that there are nearly 550,000 residents here!
There Are Affordable Houses Available In Las Vegas
I currently reside in a two-bedroom apartment and pay $1,400 monthly rental payments.
However, with an average home in Las Vegas selling for approximately $364,000.00 that means buying is certainly within my grasp!
Compare that to Portland, Oregon where living costs are 29% higher than the national average. Personal experience tells me that Vegas is certainly an affordable place to reside.
2. Living in Las Vegas Offers Many Things To Do
One thing you will quickly come to appreciate about Las Vegas after moving here is its endless supply of activities. Many places open 24/7 are sure to provide something fun!
Experience all that Las Vegas has to offer from world-class entertainment at the Smith Center or listening to live music, taking part in casino action, or partying on Fremont Street and The Strip.

Nothing compares to living in Las Vegas’ vibrant nightlife scene.

One of my favorite aspects of living in Las Vegas is being able to wear shorts and t-shirts throughout most of the year!
Winter weather offers the opportunity to appreciate and explore nature around us, making winter an excellent season to do just that!
As someone from Seattle where winters were notoriously wet and gray, my appreciation of a milder winter season is unmistakable. One aspect that has most surprised me since moving to Las Vegas has been how windy it can get! Spring, fall, and winter winds often come unannounced so be ready.

Las Vegas boasts one of the finest culinary scenes among cities its size. The food here is both affordable and exquisite!

- Valley of Fire State Park resides approximately 45 minutes northeast of Las Vegas and can best be described as Red Rocks Mecca; fittingly known by its moniker Valley of Fire. Offering family hikes, petroglyphs, well-marked trails, wildlife sightings, and much more we were truly in dessert heaven!
- Lake Mead offers visitors near Las Vegas an ideal getaway vacation experience. By comparison to some other cities I’ve lived in, Las Vegas traffic is relatively manageable compared to those with traffic jams as bad.
Travel through the city usually doesn’t exceed 30-45 minutes, an amount barely worthy of mention.
