The largest recreational attraction in Boulder City is the engineering wonder of Hoover Dam. Located seven miles east of the city, Hoover Dam was built to control the powerful Colorado River and help families through the Great Depression of the 1930s. A new visitor’s center provides interactive exhibits and the grounds of the Dam offer exquisite views of Lake Mead and Black Canyon. A museum is located onsite that offers displays, artifacts, photographs, and stories of those who endured the construction of Hoover Dam.

Just outside the city limits are popular gaming casinos and hotspots. The Railroad Pas Hotel and Casino is nestled among the mountain pass in the Las Vegas Valley and the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino is located along the edge of the Lake Mead Recreation area that leads to Boulder Dam.
